Reality Acceptance Skills: Willingness & willfulness, half-smile, & willing hands

Have you ever encountered a situation where you knew you should do something but the devil on your shoulder whispered in your ear, "But you don't want to... resist! Fight! Show them what you're made of and damn the consequences!!"? Enter one of my oldest friends, willfulness. This is the voice in your head that feels so good to listen to & act on when emotions are high and the adrenaline is pumping. This is also the voice that gets us into trouble and leaves us reeling when we realize it has steered us wrong and the action that felt so dang right is actually inconsistent with our values. Thus we introduce the skill of willingness. Willingness tells us to be effective and consider our values, even when a situation is emotionally charged. It begs the question, "Does it matter now, or does it matter most?". Come foster willingness with us by using the skills half-smile and willing hands.
