Reality Acceptance Skills: Mindfulness of Current Thoughts



So often our thoughts drive us from distress to crisis. These are the moments our thoughts shift to hopeless and self-depreciating, scream at us that the worse possible outcome will most definitely come true, and decide to play our most painful thoughts on repeat as if they were our favorite song. The point is, sometimes it feels like our thoughts are painful to the point of being unbearable so we try to push them away, avoid them, or suppress them. Unfortunately, if we only avoid our thoughts, they tend to come back even stronger. Mindfulness of current thoughts allows us to notice our thoughts, experience them without judgment or resistance, and allow them to pass without the misery they might normally bring.
