Intro to emotion regulation: The model of emotions

Welcome! It's time to dive into one of our favorite skills: The model of emotions. This model informs every other emotion regulation skill we will talk about and helps us figure out why in the world some emotions are so sticky and hard to get rid of. Walk through the model with us and then try it out on a particularly strong, sticky, or intolerable emotion.

Observe mindfulness practice: 0:17-4:20

Intro to the model: 4:21-6:10

Practice: 6:11-17:25

Homework: 17:26-end

Grab your handouts (available below). Feel free to also reference what I call the "emotion dictionary" - 10 pages of common emotions complete with details from each element of the model of emotions. This can be super helpful if you have trouble labeling your emotions or different aspects of each emotion.

Walk through your model on your own using the worksheet below!
