DBT & DBT Skills Training

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive evidence-based treatment that was designed and researched to treat adolescents and adults with a range of problem behaviors related to difficulty regulating emotions such as suicidality and self-harm. DBT has four core components: (1) One-to-one therapy, (2) mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness skills training, (3) telephone coaching, and (4) consultation team. For more information on DBT, click here

I offer comprehensive DBT (including the components listed above), individual DBT skills training, and small DBT skills groups (2-4 people per group). If interested in comprehensive DBT or DBT skills, please schedule a consult and we will work together to determine the appropriate treatment for your needs.

DBT & Me

I have extensive training and experience in DBT. I completed an intensive DBT foundational training through BehavioralTech: A Linehan Institute Training Company and DBT Skills in Schools: Skills Training for Emotional Problem Solving for Adolescents (DBT STEPS-A) with program developers Drs. Mazza & Dexter-Mazza. I also completed an intensive DBT-Prolonged Exposure training with Dr. Melanie Harned (the treatment developer) to treat trauma symptoms.

I completed a 2-year DBT practicum program at The Seattle Clinic and loved it so much that I opened a private practice serving clients in the Seattle area. I saw individual clients for comprehensive DBT and one-to-one skills-training, co-led adult and couples skills groups of 8-12 individuals, and participated in weekly consultation team meetings. In addition to my private practice work, I led small-group skills training for domestic and international students at the Northwest School.

During my predoctoral internship at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center, I pressed pause on private practice and instead brought DBT to the medical center, developing and leading DBT skills groups for those struggling with chronic pain, cancer, and cognitive impairment.

After my time at the VA, I decided it was time to come back to the private practice realm in my home state of MN. I am now offering comprehensive DBT, skills training, and will soon offer specialized DBT groups to MN residents.
